Transfixed as we are by war and mass shootings, it’s not always easy to keep your chin up. But we try. Notable new music:
The Happy Somethings’s “New Life,” a sweet and, yes, happy boy/girl duet about starting a new life.
The Garden Folk: and their new collection entitled, appropriately enough, Spring ’22. It’s what you might call indie folk music and sounds better than you’d expect for something that seems like it might have been thrown together as a lark.
Most faithful cover: Popdudes cover of “Ooh Child” by The Five Stairsteps (1973).
Most unexpected cover: Chino’s hardcore version of Ringo Starr’s “Photograph.”
Also, lots of songs marginally related to gun violence and the state of society.
