It really is a brand new era, and this had us a little off balance, seeing as how it’s the eve of Donald J. Trump’s inauguration, a decidedly disruptive prospect if ever there was one. Our confusion gave us the opportunity to take a scattershot approach to the whole affair on Bubble Wrap radio this week — a little Bootsy and Cornell West, some GC, and even a smidge of Obama from 2008. Oddly, the song that most reflected my mood was “Dance It Down” by The Pool, an immense dance track from the early 1980s that conveys that strangely detached mood one finds oneself in when confronted by potential awfulness of epic proportions. Do check it out.
Also on the player — Foxygen’s “Avalon,” an eccentric little number that clocks in somewhere between Crowded House and Rocky Horror Picture Show. Also liked Trust Fund’s whimsical and winning “Like A Frog” and Tzechar’s oddball masterwork “Bot,” the latter aimed at proving that the duo can do more than remix KPop hits (it’s true — they can and they are good).
Not much more to say — life goes on and music helps us through it.
