Our favorite band of the week turned out to be my favorite band of last year, despite the fact that I only just discovered them — The Breaks Inc. and their amazing album Hotel Earth.  Also, belatedly, a couple of tracks from the Chillhop Winter Essentials disc and new music from Mogwai.  Not to mention a bunch of oldies designed to remark on the current scene without offending anyone’s sensibilities too much.

But about Breaks Inc., if you’re into that brand of pop I think of as post-indie, which is to say, 21st century indie rock, AND you have a less then jaunty view of the planet’s future, then their new album Hotel Earth might be for you. Check out our review here

The Mogwai track “God Gets You Back” is surprisingly laidback for the lads who used to live for shimming waves of feedback.  If anything, this one is more like the 80s although no particular genre comes to mind.  It does rock, it is mostly instrumental — in short, it is Mogwai.  You will like.

XOXO Xopher has a whole new EP out (full disclosure — he is a co-host of the Bubble Wrap show.)  We played “Oh No” and “Royalty Loyalty” in honor of the Inauguration next week.

And thems the breaks, read on for more…
