All over the world, new music is happening and it’s up to us to catch(some of) it and bring it to y’all. This week on Bubble Wrap Radio, we played songs from Thailand, Brisbane, Pittsburgh and Croatia, among other places. Believe it or not, you can hear the difference geography makes.
Hope The Flowers are the Thai group and their sound seems rooted in the Asian prog we’ve heard from Indonesian band Bunyi Sembunyi. Is there actually an Asian prog scene? Screamfeeder out of Brisbane produce that uptempo poppy punk for which the Aussies are famous. Zal, from Croatia, are more on the experimental noisy end of things. Their song “Zen” was probably my favorite of the week, although we continue to like Glass Animals, who seem to be releasing their new album How To Be A Human Being one track at a time.
Bob Dylan had a birthday on this day of May 24, so we succumbed to the urge to play old Dylan songs, in this case choosing from Highway 61 Revisited and Blood On The Tracks. If I could only have to Dylan records…
Also this week, more funky remixes from Beastie Boys, The Disco Four, and De La Soul (a super clean radio edit of “In The Woods”). New funk from Erikah Badu and Electric Guest.
Stuck on replay in my head: “All Over It Again” by Screamfeeder. I wonder why? Listen to it and you will hear.
