This week’s edition of Bubble Wrap featured new songs from Wild Skies, Annabelle’s Curse, and Sallie Ford, among many others. On the funky side, we had a bunch of new old 12″ cuts from the 1980s, as well as an a capella version of Pleasure Principle by Janet Jackson.
Wild Skies, from Chicago, gave us “Fumes and Faith,” which has country hit written all over it, although maybe not one of this era. Other highlights included “Debt Song” by Matthew Squires and Sallie Ford’s exceptional “Middle Child.”
CG’s 12″ers included an extended version of “Love’s Got Me In Triangles” by Haircut 100 and “Things Can Only Get Better” by Howard Jones.
In the category of Unusual Covers, Men of North Country, a “soul” band from Tel Aviv, performed a raucous cover of “Richard Cory” (repurposed by Simon and Garfunkel from a poem by Edward Arlington Robinson) while Rhythm Scholar created a sweet electro-mix out of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now.”
