With the WVEW Groundhog Day Dance Party coming up the next day, we made a modest attempt to play even more dance music than usual on Bubble Wrap this week. It seems easy but when you actually try to come up with universal dance list for everyone, you find that there’s no way. People like to dance to all kinds of music.
So we indulged ourselves. CG contributed a hard-to-find Prince side project from the Purple Rain era — “Modernaire” by Dez Dickerson, along with NPG’s “Free The Music” and Prince’s extended version of “America.” I threw in “Wipe That Sound” by Mouse on Mars and my new favorite dance tune, “Dance It Down” by The Pool. Going out to a listener was REM’s surprisingly danceable “End of the World As We Know It.”
Otherwise, it was a hastily thrown together mix of newer stuff, some of which I quite liked. For instance, Thula Borah’s “Confabulation” (from Glasgow!), Split Single’s “Untry Love” (pleasantly pop), and Kaytranada’s “Together.”
This week’s compulsive hum was “Revolution” by Van William — check it out, you’ll be humming it too.
